Very soon the drink was given the title of a bona fide cocktail. Circa 1862, Jerry Thomas, the father of American cocktail-making, concocted the Brandy Sour and Gin Sour. Soon thereafter, the American Whiskey Sour was given a mass-market appeal by the American drinkers.
